Spreads in Meow Tarot

The twelve spreads you can choose from when drawing cards in the app: how many cards each uses, what it looks at, which questions it suits, and the Academy page that covers it in detail.

Three cards

  • Three Aspects (3 cards): the three cards have no set order and look at one matter from three sides at once. Today's fortune uses this same method. For details, see the free-form method in The Three-Card Spread.
  • Flow of Time (3 cards): past, present, future. Use it to ask where a matter is heading or to look back over an experience. For details, see The Three-Card Spread.

Five cards

  • The Choice (5 cards): your current situation sits in the middle, and each of the two paths gets two cards, showing its present state and where it leads. Use it when you need to decide between two things. For details, see The Two-Choice Spread.
  • Lover’s Cross (5 cards): you, the other person, past, present, future. It looks at the connection between two people. For details, see the cross-shaped relationship spread in Relationship Spreads.
  • Pentagram (5 cards): the crux, your attitude, the events it sets off, the outcome, and the lesson, laid out on the five points of a pentagram. It suits times when you're torn or need to make a decision. It shares the five-pointed star frame with The Five-Element Spread, but the positions mean different things.
  • Four Seasons (5 cards): one major card sets the core theme of the season, and four minor cards are drawn separately from Swords, Wands, Cups and Pentacles, standing for plans, career, love and money. It is used only at the spring and autumn equinoxes and the summer and winter solstices. For the pros and cons of drawing cards grouped by suit like this, see the end of The Five-Element Spread.

Six or more

  • Mirror of Hearts (6 cards): set in pairs, showing what you and the other person each think of one another in the past, present and future.
  • Search Spread (6 cards): for lost pets and lost things, when a pet or a belonging has gone missing.
  • Venus Love (8 cards): the couple's past, how each of you comes across, the current state, what helps or hinders, what each of you truly feels, and where things are heading. It suits marriage and long-term relationships. For details, see the Venus love spread in Relationship Spreads.
  • Reunion (9 cards): the foundation in the past, where each of you stands now, what each of you truly feels about getting back together, the reason for the breakup, the factors that would help a reunion, what's hidden, and where things are heading. For details, see the reunion spread for exes in Relationship Spreads.
  • Past Lives (9 cards): your self in a past life, what you learned and where you failed; your self in this life, your strengths and weaknesses; then your recurring problems, your goal in this life, and the best way forward.
  • Celtic Cross (10 cards): the left side analyzes the problem and the right side shows the way forward. Use it when a question is complicated and you want to see the whole of a matter clearly. For details, see The Celtic Cross.

How to choose

The more specific the question, the smaller the spread. A matter you can ask about in one sentence takes three cards; a decision takes The Choice; and for a love question involving two people where you want to understand the whole story, step up to Venus Love or Reunion. For the principles of choosing a spread, see Tarot Spreads.
